I’m so happy to share the revival we recently gave our little guest room. This attic room was just begging for some life and love to be put into it and with the help of The Company Store, we’ve thankfully done just that. The dramatic difference that some quality new bedding can make is truly amazing. This room went from drab to coastal cozy in the short amount of time it took us to outfit the bed. Scroll down for the bedding details along with some of my favorite tips on making your room guest-ready.To freshen up the room and make it as inviting as possible, we chose the Dakota Stripe duvet cover in white and navy with matching shams. I love how the stripes lend a bold pattern to the room and play against the gingham in the window shade. Jacquard woven in Portugal, the duvet is stonewashed to give it a beautiful sun-faded aesthetic that makes me think of summer days spent on Nantucket. What surprised me is how incredibly soft the material is and how cozy it is to snuggle up in. The reverse side of the duvet offers a solid white percale backing which definitely rivals the bedding of any high-end hotel or resort we’ve stayed.
We paired the duvet with The Company Store’s 5 oz. solid flannel sheet set in taupe. I’m so glad I chose this color because mixed with the blues in the duvet, it reminds me of dunes and sandy shores. And I have to say how beyond soft and cozy the flannel feels. I’m a flannel loyalist and pretty much only stock the house with flannel sheets and these are my favorite, by far. My son wanted to climb up in the bed after I had finished photographing the room so I climbed in with him and I honestly wanted to stay there all afternoon. Seriously, our guests are in for a treat.
I also opted to have the flannel pillowcases monogrammed which I find really elevates the look. And The Company Store is offering FREE monogramming on items until November 7, 2018 so take advantage of that if you order anything. It was flawlessly done and shipped incredibly fast in my experience.
Tips for Getting Guest-Ready
In addition to supplying guests with clean, fresh and cozy bedding, I like to try and offer a few other things that will help them feel right at home:
Obviously, your guests will need to freshen up at some point so you’ll need to have plenty of towels on hand. I love the Legends® Regal Egyptian cotton towels (c/o) from The Company Store. We chose the set that includes bath towels, hand towels and wash cloths in the midnight blue color and went ahead and had them monogrammed … because isn’t everything better with a monogram on it? These towels are thick and sumptuous and feel super luxe. In fact, I’m thinking about just moving them down to the master bathroom for awhile, haha.
I always bring home the toiletries that I don’t use from fancy hotels and put them in a little basket in the guest bathroom. The basket is stocked with everything from soap and shampoos to cotton balls and sewing kits.
If you’re really close with your guest and know their size, it would be really thoughtful to put out a freshly laundered pair of comfy PJ’s. I especially love this green plaid thermal top and short set for women (c/o) from The Company Store. It’s the perfect amount of warmth and coziness for the fall months and I’m a total sucker for plaids, especially when they’re flannel! And now through Dec 16th, The Company Store is donating $1 for every pair of family pajamas sold.
I usually tend to forget this one (oops!) but it’s nice to make sure the closet in the guest room is supplied with hangers so your guests can easily hang their clothing.
Candle and/or Flowers
Something to create a cheerful and mellow mood is always nice and a pleasant candle and/or flowers can go a long way.
This is definitely something of an added bonus but I think it’s nice to try and include comfort items like this. I love the half-moon side sleeper pillow (c/o) from The Company Store because you can obviously use it for side sleeping but you can also use it as a back cushion or between your knees.
I like to keep a basket filled with soft blankets and throws for extra warmth. Family heirlooms are even sweeter to include – one of the blankets in our basket was made by my husband’s grandmother.
