Classic Connecticut Wedding at Lord Thompson Manor

Classic Connecticut Wedding at Lord Thompson Manor

Katie and Dan married in August at the Lord Thompson Manor in Thompson, Conn. The couple chose a crisp and clean color palette saturated with natural greens and whites with pops of soft blue. / Images by Rachel Buckley.

Says Katie, “We fell in love with Lord Thompson Manor immediately and could totally envision our dream wedding weekend there. We felt like we had found a hidden gem! They made the wedding planning process a breeze and were so knowledgeable and professional every step of the way. They handle so much on site and have a phenomenal team to work with. Jackie, the lead designer, has an impeccable eye, an outstanding attention to detail and works tirelessly to bring your vision to life.

We wanted a very classic, and effortless feel to the entire weekend. We wanted our guests to feel at ease and to most importantly have fun. We went with crisp, clean colors. With lots of green, white and pops of blue. Our flowers were stunning and really helped tie everything together.

For us there were so many little details that made the day so special. From walking down the aisle to the same song my mother had, our eight different types of wedding cake (my husband loves cake and couldn’t decide on just one flavor), to our late night snacks (hot dog stand!), the day was unforgettable. We also had a family friend use his printing press to custom make our rehearsal dinner invites. I loved planning all of the details and Lord Thompson Manor did a fantastic job bringing them all to life while suggesting others that I never would have thought of (like having eight different types of cake!).

I knew that I wanted a very classic, timeless dress that felt like me. When I put on my wedding dress for the first time I felt like myself and when I added the veil I started to cry. It was the first time that I had truly felt like a bride.

Favorite memories? Too many too count! One that stands out is being able to eat dinner together, away from our guests. The Manor set up a romantic table for two and while it may sound odd, it was the best decision. We were able to enjoy our food, spend quality time together and reflect on the day. Once dinner was over we were re-charged and ready to party the night away!

Advice? Find a venue and vendors that you enjoy working with. Trust your gut! We knew we wanted to be fairly hands-off on the wedding weekend and let our venue and vendors take the reigns. Being able to trust them 100% made all the difference so we could fully enjoy every moment of the weekend.
