Jessica and JP married on a warm spring day at The Woodstock Inn & Resort in Vermont. Their color palette focused heavily on natural greenery inspired by the surroundings peppered with touches of soft pinks, including the soft pink tint to Jessica’s wedding dress. The reception featured candelabras woven with ferns, roses and baby’s breath. / Images by The Light and Color Wedding Photography, submitted via Matchology.
Says Jessica, “We wanted our wedding to be very much a reflection of us as a couple. That meant it had to be somewhere we spend a lot of time: Vermont or New Hampshire. When we both walked into the Woodstock Inn we exchanged glances, we knew we had found the perfect venue. Once we had settled on our venue, the rest came somewhat organically. We knew we wanted lush greens and soft colors in the floral arrangements. Everything was so romantic and whimsical.
How did you meet? We met while attending the University of Hartford through mutual friends on a ghost-hunting adventure. While I was a studious junior, JP was able to break me out of my comfort zone and introduced me to the outdoors, including hiking and climbing. We also both enjoyed traveling, running, learning to surf and, of course, snowboarding.
There were so many special moments. Everything from getting ready with all my family and friends in the morning to seeing my dad waiting for me before walking down the aisle. It took everything in me to stop from sobbing the entire way down the aisle. The ceremony to me was incredibly special. I have never felt so much joy and love in my life as I did standing up there with my soon to be husband. Our reception was absolutely perfect as well. It was incredible to be surrounded by all the people you love. We simply could not stop smiling and laughing.
Proposal story | We had been dating for eight years when we took a trip to Iceland to drive the ‘Ring Road.’ After a few very rainy days around Reykevik, we landed in the Southeast region of Iceland. We decided to check out Stokknes Beach, a very famous, black sand beach with a stunning, mountainous backdrop. That morning the rain had serendipitously stopped and we found ourselves completely alone with the spectacular scenery. JP set up his tripod to snap some photos of us when he dropped to one knee. It was the perfect moment.
I loved the classic navy suit with brown shoes and a blue pink tie for my husband and the groomsmen. I, on the other hand, never in a million years thought I would have picked out a pink, strapless dress. In fact, when my sister-in-law picked it out, I grimaced before I faced the mirror thinking of how this dress could not possibly look good on me. However, as soon as I saw my reflection, I knew I had found the perfect dress. I decided to add a couple of details to the dress including the pink ribbon around the waist and the pearl buttons going down the back. I felt these details really elevated the dress.
There were a couple of details that we prioritized. We really wanted a longer cocktail hour and did 90 minutes instead of 60. The front lawn at the Woodstock Inn is really beautiful so we wanted to give our guests time to enjoy that. We also skipped doing a videographer and instead invested in a really great photographer and an amazing band.
My wedding flowers are all thanks to my incredibly talented and creative mother-in-law. The only thing I can take credit for is sending her a couple examples from pinterest! The bouquet was lush and whimsical with mostly green ferns, trailing ivy, hydrangeas, white country roses and soft touches of pink ranunculus. Our reception featured stunning candelabras that were woven with ferns, roses and baby’s breath.
Our favors were maple syrup bottles from Judd’s, a farm by my husband’s family ski house in Vermont.
Advice? My advice would be to not allow the stress of planning to muddy how beautiful of a time it is and to really soak it all in.
