Cheerful Nantucket Golf Club Wedding

Cheerful Nantucket Golf Club Wedding

Mike and Chrissy married in early September at St. Mary’s of the Isle on Nantucket followed by a tented reception at the Nantucket Golf Club. Nantucket had been a special part of the bride’s life since she was a baby and she enjoyed planning a vibrantly tasteful celebration with her groom and Handy & Dallaire Events to reflect their love of the island. / Images by Mark & Wendy of Zofia & Co. Says Chrissy, “I chose to do a wedding on Nantucket because I had been going there since I was an infant. I love that it is surrounded by nature. I’ve always found solace being among natural elements, the ocean, sea grass, trees, sand, the stars. Nothing is more romantic than taking a walk in nature with your significant other. This is something Mike and I like to do together. Nantucket Golf Club felt like the rolling hills of Ireland, with a lighthouse in the distance reminding you that you are on a magical island.

I chose to stray away from the typical Nantucket wedding that includes navy and white and hydrangeas. I wanted zesty fluorescent colors from the beginning. People would ask me what my color choices were and I would reply, ‘all of them.’ I’ve always loved bright colors and I paired these bright colors against a sea foam velvet linen and tie dye cocktail table linens. The tie dye reminded me of the color of the tides rolling in and out. I had grey and white table cards to grab the element of fog on Nantucket. I really wanted a ton of texture and nature in my tent. So my planner did a clear top tent to look at the stars and had hanging basket lamps, (again an all-natural element) with greenery hanging everywhere, real candle light immersed in tall glass tumblers. I didn’t want any chandeliers or anything grand. I wanted my guests to feel like I was bringing the outdoors inside, creating a casual but also glam bohemian vibe.

Tell us about the moment you knew you had found your dress. I had always known I loved Monique Lhullier because of this romanticism to their designs. I researched when there would be trunk shows locally and went with my two sisters and mom. I’m not the type of girl to want to make things hard on myself so I was hoping to do this in one shot. Also, my sisters are both moms so I knew the likelihood of getting everyone’s schedule to coincide again may be difficult. I put on this dress and it was so me. It was bohemian and classic at the same time. It hugged my curves where I wanted and with the right tailoring at allfit I looked my very best on the wedding day. I loved the modern 3D lace while still holding on to the classic lace wedding gown tradition.

Favorite special touches? My dog on the napkin, my mother’s tennis bracelet, a tie patch that said ‘i love you more than pizza’ – a saying we to say to one another. The ‘He’ ‘She’ ‘We’ on the back of our menu card listing all the things we love about one another. A clipping of my mother’s wedding gown sewn inside of my own dress. The thank you’s I wrote to people in the church program. A song quote on the front of the church program after a play I was named after. ‘Phantom of the Opera’ that went like ‘say you’ll stay with me one love one life time. anywhere you go let me go to. love me that’s all I ask of you.’

Favorite memories? Dancing with my husband and the crowd roaring when he dipped me. I love dancing, not that I am a professional dancer but boogying gives me so much joy. My husband almost knocked over our cake when cutting it. And we took a moment with one another to go look at the stars outside the tent. The fact that there was a hurricane that weekend, so when we finally got good weather just in the knick of time we were so thankful for it. Everyone says the sun broke just as we walked outside the church.

Advice? Remember that no one else knows your other options you were given when attending, so dont stress about it. Keep it easy on folks. I let people pick out their own suits and bridesmaids outfits. I picked out my dress in one shot.
