Refined Equestrian Estate Wedding at The Ryland Inn

Laura and Patrick married among the gentle hills of The Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station, New Jersey. The refined equestrian estate made for a beautiful backdrop for the couple’s wedding which included a ceremony floral arch and a reception ballroom featuring soft blooms and greenery flowing generously from the chandeliers above. The couple also included their pup, Stanley, who was a dog groomsman and wore a matching blue tux. / Images by Amy Rizzuto Photography, submitted via Matchology.

Says Laura, “Our style for the wedding was a blend of classic, simple, and rustic elegance. We chose The Ryland Inn as we felt it matched our vision perfectly – rustic yet refined. We kept the colors light and fresh with tons of white blossoms, green ivy and vines, and touches of light pink accent flowers.

My wedding dress [was from Nouvelle Amsale and featured] a v-neck crepe bodice and layered tulle ballgown skirt with horsehair trim. It was so fun and comfortable to wear! Pat and his groomsmen all wore navy suits from The Black Tux and my bridesmaids wore matching Amsale bridesmaid dresses in blush. Our dog, Stanley, was looking dapper as always in a custom navy tuxedo from Etsy.

How did you meet? Our story began in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in the fall of 2011 during our senior year at Lehigh University in a GPA-boosting class called ‘Doing Archaeology.’ One day our professor asked the class to split into pairs for projects throughout the semester and, as fate would have it, we were sitting right next to each other and agreed to be partners. Our relationship quickly grew from classmates, to friends, and finally to dates on December 10 for a fraternity holiday formal (the date which has marked our anniversary ever since).

Proposal Story | In the fall prior to our six year anniversary of our first date, we planned a trip to Stockholm, Sweden, in December 2017, a time when the sun rises at 9 and sets at 3. With visions of glögg, fika, Christmas markets, and Swedish meatballs, we could not wait to get on our way! Little did I know, Pat had been planning everything from the ring to the proposal location for months. The morning after we touched down in Stockholm, he planned for us to wake up early and walk to Monteliusvägen, a cliff-side path overlooking the whole city and Lake Mälaren, to take in the view at sunrise. Once we arrived, and after what Pat has called ‘several nerve-wracking moments,’ he got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. It was an unforgettable trip and Stockholm will forever hold a special place in our hearts!

In the ballroom, we had white flowers and ivy draped from the chandeliers and a mixture of high and low flower centerpieces with candles scattered throughout the room.

Our main focus was always on our guests and throwing a fabulous and memorable party! We picked an amazing band/dj hybrid, Excel Entertainment, that kept all of our guests on the dance floor all night long. We did decide to splurge on a few extras such as a photo booth with a fun ivy backdrop and our hashtag and late night food from Big Mozz (I’m obsessed with mozzarella sticks).

Favorite memories? We surprised all of our family and friends with a choreographed first dance that blew everyones minds. The team at Fred Astaire Dance Studios taught us all sorts of dance moves and put together an amazing routine that was so much fun to perform.

The Ryland Inn has 2 houses on the property that are able to be rented out for your wedding weekend. Both my family and Pat’s family were able to stay at these houses for the weekend. Having our families together, laughing, making memories, and celebrating our marriage was our favorite wedding present.

And of course, we were thrilled that our 3-year old shih-poo, Stanley was able to be a part of our ceremony and included in our photos!

Advice? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Your wedding day is a time for celebration. Focus on your partner, family, and friends and everything else will fall into place.
