Katie and Ambrose married in the back field at the Skinner Barn in Waitsfield, Vermont. While the couple both have very strong ties to Vermont, they were living in Bermuda (where is Ambrose is from) while planning their wedding and wanted to incorporate aspects that reflected both homes. / Images by The Light and Color Wedding Photography, submitted via Matchology.
Says the couple, “Katie is from Vermont and Ambrose is from Bermuda (but went to school in Vermont and has a family home there). We were living in Bermuda while planning our wedding, so it was important to us to try to represent the two places we love and call home. We used a local, farm-to-table caterer, The Hindquarter, who used fresh flavors to represent Vermont’s bountiful fall harvest and cuisine and a local, organic farm to provide our gorgeous flowers. Ambrose and his groomsmen wore formal Bermuda dress – Bermuda shorts and socks with blazers, and we served Dark ‘n’ Stormies (Bermuda’s national drink) at cocktail hour. It was a unique, fun blending of our two cultures!
Katie found her dress at Madeline’s Daughter in New Hampshire and fell in love with the delicate layers of detail. She made sure to wear a bracelet designed by Alexandra Mosher, a Bermudian jeweler who incorporates pink Bermuda sand into her designs. Katie’s earrings were her something borrowed – blue flower posts from her best friend and maid of honor, Bailey.
Ambrose’s lilac Bermuda shorts won’t be forgotten by the Vermonters in attendance at the wedding. His bow tie and the ties the groomsmen wore were specially designed by General Knot & Co., who make bespoke ties from vintage textiles.
Our biggest priorities were the band, the bar, and the food. We wanted people to have fun and eat and drink well, and everything fell into place after that. It was also importance to us to include our local community in the wedding, so Katie’s best friend from third grade was our photographer, our ceremony musician was an elementary school friend’s brother, and our food and flowers were local and organic. Neither of us like wedding cake, so we opted for an ice cream truck instead, and it was the hit of the night!
How did you meet? We met in Bermuda in 2012 when Katie was interning at the National Museum of Bermuda and Ambrose had just moved back to his Island home to start his career. A mutual friend introduced us during a hurricane party and we never looked back!
Proposal Story | Ambrose surprised Katie with his great-grandmother’s engagement ring on the top of the Monte Alban – an archaeological site in Oaxaca, Mexico. They celebrated over a lunch of handmade tortillas and local cervezas and had the best time calling family and friends with their exciting news while in the hotel pool!
Our flowers were from a local farm, Clearfield Farm. Owned by two young farmers, Clearfield Farm is an organic certified farm and they have the best produce. Melissa, one of the owners, arranged the most beautiful table settings with seasonal flowers, featuring Katie’s favorite, sunflowers.
Neither of us were prepared for the numerous emotions we felt that day. Ambrose, usually the stoic half of the relationship, had teary eyes from the moment he saw Katie, and they both had to keep wiping their eyes throughout the ceremony. We have never felt so much love and joy in one day, and it was completely overwhelming and completely amazing. Our favorite memories include Katie’s lawyer father bringing exhibits to his wedding speech, Katie’s mom leading a conga line around the barn, and the MOH bringing down the house by singing with the band.“
