Nautical Nantucket Wedding at the White Elephant Hotel

Ashley and Jeff met during Figawi weekend so it was only fitting that they would wed on Nantucket, as well. The couple planned a nautical themed wedding at the White Elephant Hotel with Soiree Floral and chose a color palette of navy and blush with pops of vibrant magenta. / Images by Zofia & Co.

Says Ashley, “Given that we met on island, we couldn’t think of a more perfect spot to celebrate our wedding with family and friends than Nantucket. Stylistically, we wanted a classic and simple, yet sophisticated feel with unexpected and natural details.

For special touches from the wedding, Jeff chose a very unique first dance song which truly captured our story. ‘Someone Like You,’ as played by the Sultans of Swing, was one of the highlights of our wedding day. In addition, we wanted the groom’s attire to stand out from other weddings and the groomsmen, and thus we opted for a custom, royal blue tuxedo jacket. Our dear friend, Hilary Archer, of Archer Illustrations, also helped us design a custom monogram that carried through many details of our wedding weekend.

For the wedding design itself, we selected bamboo chairs, which were a natural detail that blended well with the lush overall look and feel. We wanted guests to have an easy way to keep track of the weekend’s events so we included a fun itinerary for Friday through Sunday in our invitation suite. Finally, my Mom served as the Maid of Honor, which was the ultimate privilege.

Jeff and Ashley’s Love Story: We met on Nantucket during Figawi weekend. At the time, Jeff was living in Manhattan, and Ashley in Connecticut. We traversed back and forth each weekend for three years until we ultimately got engaged.

Tell us about your dress. From the moment I began searching for my dress, I knew I wanted something that was classically elegant in an understated way. With lace being the primary trend these days, I sought to find something different. I had a few rules I set out from the start: no sparkles, no glitz. I spent one afternoon trying on five or so dresses in Manhattan and knew right away that the dress I chose was the one: the flowing organza, ruche layering and fitted corset style with a whimsical bow in back — its simplicity and charm stole my heart!

We sought to incorporate many special elements into our wedding day, such as our welcome bags that we hand wrote and personalized for every guest/couple. In addition, at our welcome party, we gave every guest a lit candle to help set the tone for our special weekend. For our wedding party, we wanted the bridesmaids and groomsmen to have memorabilia of both the island and our special day, so we provided them with Nantucket hats, half-zips, cuff links, and the bridesmaids with custom pink, monogrammed robes. Our cake was adorned with grosgrain ribbon that matched our invitation suite and we loved the role Jeff’s young nephews played in bringing our wedding party to life.

Advice? Despite the best laid plans, it poured on our wedding day. Have a back-up plan and don’t panic if things outside of your control occur. What’s important are the memories you create with family and friends!

The couple honeymooned in the Seychelles and Sabi Sands Game Reserve in South Africa.
