Says Anna, “Sam grew up skiing with his family in Okemo Valley, but we picked a Vermont wedding because our relationship really began in Ludlow on ski trips with our college friends. Ludlow represents family, friends, and love to us. We wanted something simple and classic, and Vermont in the fall is stunning, so that was an easy choice.
Tell us about your dress. It was a cold February day in NYC, and after a tough day at work, I went to a bridal appointment by myself. I had always had people with me before, but this was last minute so I winged it. With the help of Jill at Saks, I tried on a few beautiful dresses, but once I stepped into the Austin Scarlett, I smiled for the first time that afternoon. I hadn’t known what I was looking for until I put that dress on and never looked back. Our wedding incorporated parts of our family members from start to finish, which we loved. Sam wore his father’s cuff links, I wore my mother’s earrings. My grandfather’s initialed handkerchief was used to bless our rings. Jane, Sam’s mother drew the maps that were part of the welcome letter. I wore Sam’s grandmother’s six pence in my shoe as a good luck charm, as every woman in her family had previously done. Our families were a significant part of the selection of the venue, the planning, and every step along the way, and we wanted to be included in our day.
Anna and Sam’s Love Story: We both went to Georgetown University in Washington, DC, and while we were acquaintances, we didn’t get to be good friends until after college. Our group stayed close, so we saw each other often. I think we both had crushes on the other but never acted on it until one ski trip to Vermont. The rest is history, as we started dating right away. Unfortunately I was in NYC, and Sam was in DC, so our relationship started long distance. After a year of traveling, I made the move back to DC, where we still live today.
Favorite memories? Getting ready with my mom and beautiful bridesmaids; seeing Sam’s face for the first time at the church (I couldn’t stop shaking); being on the top of Okemo Mountain at sunset with our best friends – it was spectacular; dancing the night away; of course late night at The Loft was a blast!
The couple is heading to South Africa this April for their honeymoon.
