Nantucket Wedding at Sankaty Head Golf Club

Megan and Nick’s Nantucket wedding at Sankaty Head Golf Club was picture perfect in tones of blush and ivory. Immaculate Reception and Flowers on Chestnut created a stunningly cozy and welcoming space following the couple’s traditional ceremony at St. Mary’s Our Lady of the Isle/ Images by Runaway Bride Nantucket.

Says Megan, “We chose Nantucket because we met there in 2014 and got engaged there during the summer of 2016. Nantucket is a special place for us and we wanted to continue our story by getting married there. We fell in love with Sankaty Head Golf Club because of its classic look and feel. It is like no other wedding venue we’ve attended a wedding at! It is away from the hustle and bustle of town, tucked away in Siasconset and it is on a hill overlooking the rest of the island and ocean.

Favorite special touches? Blush ribbons! My mom and her friends helped me tie blush ribbons on the flip flops, pashminas, bubble bottles at the church, welcome bags, programs at church and menus on the dinner tables. My florist also tied them on the bridesmaid’s bouquets – I thought it was a nice pop of color and a nice way to tie everything together! We also had custom programs – designed and printed by my sister (MOH) and a custom cornhole set – made by my father in-law and grandfather which were special touches.

Tell us about the moment you knew you had found *your* dress. It took me a long time! I finally found it one day when I took a day off from grad school and went shopping with just my mom in Belmont, Mass., at Allegria Bridal. I felt so comfortable yet elegant in the dress the moment I put it on. I knew it was the one!

Megan & Nick’s Love Story | Nick and I met on Nantucket over Memorial Day Weekend of 2014 (the Figawi Sailing Race). I had rented a house with a bunch of girlfriends and he rented a house with a bunch of guy friends. We did not know each other but we ended up at the same house party. The house party was packed and I walked up to him thinking he was a co-worker of mine. When he turned around and was not who I thought he was, we ended up talking and realized we were the same age and both lived in Boston. We hung out for the rest of the day with both groups of friends and then the next day we all went home to Boston. Nick asked me on a date that I agreed to but then later cancelled because I realized the date conflicted with a class I was taking to prepare for the GMAT! When I cancelled the date, Nick quickly proposed a new time and we rescheduled. We continued to go on dates and adventures in/around Boston and I fell in love with his kindness, smile, drive, passion and love for his family and friends.

Favorite memories? Getting ready with my bridesmaids, driving in an antique car with my mom and dad to church, walking down the aisle, dancing with my dad and dancing the night away with Nick!

Megan’s advice? We got married the weekend that hurricane Jose hit Nantucket! We were supposed to get married on 9/23 but had to push our wedding to 9/24 because ferries and flights to/from the island were cancelled during the storm. Everything I had planned down to the minute basically backfired when we had to reschedule the wedding/coordinate with all our vendors! My advice would be to just enjoy every moment! Even if things do not go exactly as planned, enjoy them! We definitely endured a lot of stress leading up to our wedding day with the storm, travel logistics, guests not being able to make it, vendors not being able to reschedule, numbers being down, etc., but at the end of the day we got to marry each other surrounded by our families in a place we love and ultimately, that’s all that really matters. One of my bridesmaids told me “as long as you marry the one you love, the wedding is a success” and after everything we went through – that definitely rings true!

The couple honeymooned in Italy. They traveled to Ravello, Positano, Capri, Tuscany and Rome.
