Libby and Brandon’s summer wedding in Scarborough, Maine, was a classic vision. The couple tied the knot by the sea at a private residence and a Scottish bag piper led a procession after the ceremony. The reception took place at Prouts Neck Country Club and Beautiful Days created a perfectly polished tent setting that looked like a dream come true. / Images by Brea McDonald.
Says Libby, “I grew up spending my summers in Prouts Neck and it has always been my favorite place in the world. When Brandon and I started dating, he began coming to Prouts Neck with me and it is now one of his favorite places in the world, as well. We got engaged in Prouts Neck and when it came time to plan our wedding, it was the obvious choice. To be completely honest, I have been planning my wedding in Prouts Neck since I was five years old and we did not look anywhere else. For style, we knew we wanted to stay classic. We loved lots of whites, greens, and neutral tones.
I tried on a few dresses that I liked, but it was very clear to me when I found ‘my’ dress. I knew the moment I put it on that I would get married in that dress.
My father is a lawyer and in the state of Maine, all lawyers are ordained, so he was able to perform our ceremony. This was very special to us as we are not religious and wanted to have someone we truly loved up there with us. Libby & Brandon’s Love Story | We met through mutual friends at a party in New York City where we were both living after we graduated college. I thought Brandon was really cute and hoped he would ask me out. He eventually did.
Our favorite memory of the day was officially tying the knot and being surrounded by all of our friends and family. We were so lucky to have so many people travel great distances to celebrate with us, and we were so happy to share our special weekend with everyone. Our faces hurt from smiling at the end of the weekend. I also remember looking across the dance floor at the reception and my best friend was crying and saying ‘I’m just so happy.’ That was pretty special.
Honestly there wasn’t one thing that made the wedding special, it was just overall such a wonderful and humbling experience. We included my great-grandmother’s silver candlesticks, and I had a piece of lace from Brandon’s grandmother’s wedding dress. My family is Scottish so we were sure to include a bag-piper following the ceremony. We also buried a bottle of whiskey that was used for many Prouts Neck couples and will continue to be used by each couple until it rains.
Libby’s advice? Don’t stress out. It’s the best day of your life, have the best time of your life.
The couple honeymooned in Italy visiting the Amalfi Coast, Tuscany and Lake Como.
