Relaxed Coastal Wedding in Maine

Nicole and Pete wed at Point Lookout Resort along the coast in Northport, Maine. The couple made sure to include special details including a family heirloom brooch that is over 200 years old! Seasons Downeast Design created organically-inspired arrangements in neutral tones for the reception. / Images by Leigh Doran for Nadra Photography.

Says Nicole, “Our wedding venue offered two of our favorite things: the beautiful Maine coastline and camping! After researching many wedding venues in Pete’s home state of Maine, Point Lookout Resort was the only one that we reached out to schedule a visit. Their beautiful location offered a wedding ceremony site that overlooked the ocean as well as log cabins for our entire guest list to stay. As my ‘something old,’ I [adorned] the Dunbar brooch to my flower bouquet. This brooch is 216 years old and has been passed down to the son’s new wife on her wedding day. Robin, Pete’s mother, pinned it to my flowers right before I walked down the aisle to marry the man of my dreams!

Wedding dress shopping was one of the funniest days of my life. I was able to have my mother, sister and mother-in-law there with me that day. I decided to be open to trying on anything and it ended up making the entire experience a blast. The first dress that I tried on wasn’t ‘the one’ but it made me cry. The reality of it all sunk in. After I got those tears out of the of the way it was laughter and then HUGE smiles once I put my dress on. I remember I couldn’t stop staring in the mirror and smiling. When I finally looked around, I realized everyone else was doing the same. All four of us instantly fell in love with the dress.

Nicole & Pete’s Love Story | Pete and I met in Burlington, Vt., where we both attended college. Throughout our time at school we had a lot of mutual friends and social gatherings [where] we would see each other. It wasn’t until we both graduated that the timing was perfect for it to grow into something else. Once we finally had our first date, it felt like the rest was history. He grew to be my best friend and the love of my life so quickly. Everything just fit and was easy. We are very lucky to have found each other.

There are so many details to our wedding that we loved and put so much work into. The summer months leading up to August were full of crafting and building. Two of our most proud creations would be the wood photo booth wall as well as the marquee ‘Dunbar’ sign. We worked on [both] together, and [they] brought such a unique touch to our wedding day. To pick one favorite moment from this day is truly difficult. Everything was perfect. When I look back at it, our photo shoot down at the beach was so intimate and personal. Our first dance was a blast and we laughed the entire time. Cocktail hour with a string quartet overlooking the ocean could not have been more perfect. But I think my favorite moment was when Pete and I took a minute to pause and look around. Everyone that we love was there and having the time of there lives celebrating us. We were able to take a moment to appreciate that together and it was the best feeling in the world.”

Nicole’s advice? When it comes to planning a wedding, stay true to who you are as a couple. That day should reflect your love together! That being said, don’t stress over the little things. The only thing that matters is that at the end of the day, you are going to marry the love of your life. Chances are, it will be the best day of your life!

The couple honeymooned in Nova Scotia.

I love the details of this wedding! I’m getting married at Point Lookout next summer (2018). We were thinking Maine Pine sachets as a favor–any idea where Nicole picked hers up? Also, I loved the escort cards with the little “beef” and “fish” decals (since we have to indicate to the staff who ordered what.) Do you know where those were printed?? I’d love to borrow the idea.
