Says Sarah, “Galley Beach is an absolutely stunning location – the sunsets you see there are the best on Nantucket. It is so romantic – the restaurant serves amazing food and the decor is classy but subdued – I think to focus the attention on the breathtaking landscape around you. Because the location itself is so beautiful, there wasn’t a need to go overboard with the decoration. We chose to do simple pinks, whites, and off white flowers – all small arrangements on the tables and metallic vases. We did a lot of candlelight which just went perfectly with the atmosphere.
The ceremony itself took place on the beach, and it was a beautiful day! It was actually way hotter than anyone expected it to be, it must have been in the low 80s! Once again, just two large urns of flowers for decoration since the beach itself is so beautiful.
Sarah’s Mom, Linda, shares, “[Oliver] was the ring bearer, but would only walk down the aisle if I went with him, so we were both the ring bearers. I had the rings tied in a sand pail and had his parents’ names and the date painted on. It was very cute. As soon as we got half way down the boardwalk in the sand and he saw all the people in the audience, he promptly decided that he preferred to be carried by me and not walk. It was hilarious!!! After we delivered the pail of rings to the Groom (his Dad), Oliver went off with his sitter for the rest of the evening. :)”
The groomsmen wore stone colored suits from J.Crew and the bridesmaids wore turquoise dresses from Swoon. The color was labeled as Mint but it came in as turquoise and it ended up being so much more beautiful than I could have imagined!
Tell us how you found your wedding dress. Well, I was at Kleinfelds in NYC and I had a wonderful consultant. It was hard for me to try on the dresses because I was still losing the baby weight and knew I wanted to drop another 30 pounds by the wedding (which I did!!). So I had to be forward thinking about the dresses I tried on but I knew that I loved lace and did not want a ball gown – I did not come in with any preconceived notions of what I specifically wanted. It was a lot of fun looking throughout dresses and trying them on. I knew it was ‘my’ dress because it was different than the other ones I had tried on – the lace was timeless and off-white – it had an almost antique-y look to it, but the fit was form-fitting so it was a good balance between elegant and just a little bit sexy =). I just didn’t find any other dresses that had such a classic look while not being a wedding dress that you see all the time. I had literally never seen another dress like it anywhere!
Sarah & John’s Love Story
John and I met our sophomore year of college. All of my friends were friends with him and I always heard his name but never knew who he was! Finally, one day at a BBQ, I walked up to him and said, ‘Hi, I’m Sarah, I think we should be friends’ … and the rest is history!
Favorite memory? Laughing with John. We just had so much fun throughout the whole day. Through all of the pictures we took all over Nantucket I was just so happy to be there, with him, on that day. Everything went so perfectly it’s hard to believe.
Sarah leaves us with some parting advice, “The day goes by so quickly! Try to not get hung up on the small details and just enjoy yourself. Everyone who came is there because they love you and support you and that is so special.”
Sarah and John honeymooned on Peter Island, BVI.
