Taylor and Kevin are true high school sweethearts and their wedding in Louisville, Ky., was just as sweet. Images by Lauren W Photography.
Says Taylor, “It is really hard for me to [share] just one favorite memory. However, something I will never forget is seeing Kevin for the first time before the ceremony. I came up behind him and gave him a hug from behind. He turned around, smiled at me, and gave me a kiss.
After lots of looking in Louisville, I thought I found [a dress] that was The One. I wanted to be absolutely sure that was the one, so I went to Cincinnati, Ohio, to the bridal district to look one more time. Kevin and I (yes… he helped me… 😉 went to Cincinnati on a Sunday. I tried on several more dresses, including the one that I thought I was going to buy, but for some reason, I just couldn’t bring myself to buy it. The next weekend, I pulled the dress and looked around for any other ones I thought may be pretty. At this time, I had never tried on a beaded dress… so I found one and pulled it. I tried on that beaded dress and walked out to show Kevin. He was smiling, but didn’t say anything. I looked at myself in the mirror and couldn’t stop smiling. I had found the dress I was going to wear at our wedding. I asked him why he didn’t say anything when I walked out of the dressing room. He said, ‘I figured when you found the dress you wanted to walk down the aisle in, you would stop asking me my opinion.’
Taylor and Kevin’s Love Story
It has been so long we don’t remember… 🙂 Kevin and I met through my brother, Corey, when I was a freshman in high school. Kevin and Corey were good friends when they were sophomores. Kevin would see me around school, and because I was his friend’s little sister, he would either ignore me or give me a hard time about everything. We became friends after a mission trip to Honduras and started dating the summer after my freshman year. We fell in love and have been together ever since. We went through high school and college together and never broke up. True high school sweethearts.
Instead of wearing my mother and grandmother’s wedding dress, I used some lace (that my mom had hand sewn beads into for her wedding) to wrap around my bouquet. That was really special to bring some of my mother and grandmother into my wedding.
We got married in a beautiful church in Louisville (Highlands Baptist).
Our reception was at The Gillespie in downtown Louisville. We were attracted to The Gillespie because of its classic art deco architecture and interiors. We allowed the setting to influence the rest of our theme, wedding colors (green and gold), and other details (invitations, ceremony programs, music, seating chart…).
Our friends helped with the dessert catering – my sister, Jessie Ogburn, made cupcakes for the reception and our friend Elisa Graham made Kevin a chocolate pie (his favorite dessert). One of my bridesmaids, Taylor Jackson, helped make our wedding invitations, table numbers, and ceremony programs. My sister and maid of honor, Jessie, made me a scrapbook with letters from all my bridesmaids, family members, and also Kevin for me to read on the night before the wedding. We are so grateful for our friends and family who helped us celebrate our wedding and marriage. They are the ones that made this day so special.”
Taylor’s advice: Relax and enjoy it. Let go of things you can’t control. It will all work out and be perfect. Kevin and I just want to reiterate this—We know this was our wedding; however, it really was our friends and family that made this day what it was! They made it better than we could have ever have imagined.
Kevin and Taylor spent a week in St. Maarten for their honeymoon!
