While our baby Winston is only turning four months old and still happily fits in his infant car seat, J&I like to think ahead so we wanted to do some research and have his “big boy” car seat ready to go as soon as he’s ready for it. I hate putting things off to end up feeling pressured into making a quick decision – especially on a big ticket item like a car seat – so the reading and Googling began.
We’ve loved W’s Maxi-Cosi® infant car seat since the day we brought him home from the hospital so I knew we would want to check out what that brand offered as the next step up but I also wanted to see what other brands offered. Remembering our great experiences visiting buybuy BABY last summer, we decided to make a trip to our local store to test out their selection of car seats and talk with one of their expert consultants on which seat would best fit our lifestyle. I’m so glad we chose to do this because it essentially cut out hours of research we would have had to do otherwise. Karen, the sweet expert we spoke with, talked with us a little bit to get a sense of what we were looking for and then she showed us several car seats that she thought would work best for us. It’s so nice that buybuy BABY has such a large selection of floor models available to check out and try out and staffs employees who really know the products inside and out to help us make informed decisions.
Here are the car seats we ended up considering:
1 | Maxi-Cosi® Pria™ 85 Convertible Car Seat in Devoted Black
2 | Diono® Rainier Convertible and Booster Car Seat in Midnight
3 | Maxi-Cosi® Rachel Zoe Special Edition Jet Set Pria 85 Convertible Car Seat
4 | Diono™ Radian® RXT Convertible Car Seat and Booster in Black Plum
5 | Peg Perego Primo Viaggio SIP Convertible Car Seat in Panama
We ended up being a bit torn between the Maxi-Cosi® Pria™ 85 and the Diono® Rainier Convertible car seats. I loved the Diono’s super narrow seat which makes it great for air travel but our great experiences with Maxi-Cosi® made us lean toward sticking with a brand we already know and trust. When Karen mentioned how easy it is to re-thread on the Maxi-Cosi®, we were sold. We decided on the Pria 85 (the 85 means it can hold a child up to 85 pounds … personally, I can’t imagine Winnie as a junior high-er buckling into a car seat but I guess the times have changed since I was a kid!)
Here’s a peek at W trying out his big boy seat:Even though it will probably be another 6-7 months until W is ready for his big boy car seat, I’m so glad we have it ready to go! And I think it will be fun to look back on how little he once looked sitting in it!
While we were at buybuy BABY, we couldn’t help but look around at everything else – while it’s a big box store, it has a bit of a boutique feel to it because they offer such a great variety of high-end merchandise and their employees are so helpful and knowledgeable. We found some of the cutest books and small toys to add to W’s activity gym at home.
Now onto the next thing to research and accomplish – baby proofing the house! Maybe we should just plan another visit to buybuy BABY next weekend. 😉
