Alexandria and James planned a classically nautical wedding at The Wianno Club in Osterville, Mass. Alexandria spent a lot of time planning the wedding so many of the details were very personal including the monogrammed bridesmaids’ bouquet ribbons. After the couple exchanged vows beneath a flowering arch by Dolores Ahern, they enjoyed a night of dining and dancing with loved ones. / Images by Newbury Photographs.
Says Alexandria, “The Wianno Club is a private club located in Osterville, Mass. My father grew up in this town, and I grew up in the town next door, Centerville. The club is very classic, shingled with white and green accents, and the view is unbeatable. It is set on a bluff overlooking Nantucket Sounds, and all the rooms have beautiful views of the ocean. We knew we wanted a classic Cape Cod wedding with an outdoor ceremony and Wianno had everything we wanted and more.
I had so much fun getting ready with the girls and doing our first look. Having the time at the club with an intimate group was so special. We got to enjoy our time together during our first look moment, and then with our families and bridal party before the craziness of the day got started. We also got most of the pictures out of the way so we got to actually hang out during our cocktail hour!
My Mom’s best friend knew I designed my invitations so she ended up getting one framed in a shadowbox so we could display it on our entry table. It was beautiful, and we now have it on display in our house.
I was extremely picky about my dress. I knew I wanted ivory lace, a sweetheart neckline, fit and flare, a darker satin underlay, and some sort of scalloped edge detail. I must have tried on fifty dresses. I second guessed my dress the first time I tried it on, mostly because I wanted my mom and sister to be there when I found the perfect one. I ended up buying a different dress with them, and then decided to buy the other dress later, so I ended up with two dresses!
The ceremony was truly magical, and I will never forget it because James and I spent a lot of time planning out the exact verbiage. Of course, the most fun part was dancing the night away to our amazing band, with all of our family and friends!
James & Alexandria’s Love Story | James and I met five years ago at St. Petersburg Yacht Club in Florida. He grew up in St. Pete, and I had moved here eight years ago. We were sitting across the bar from each other and a friend decided to go introduce himself and invited him over to hang out with us (there are not a whole lot of young members at the club). He sat next to me and was very intrigued about where I was from and what brought me to Florida. I knew there was something special about him and we both have such a love for boating so from then on we were pretty much inseparable!
We had a cake knife lent to us from a close family friend, Lisa. She has had the knife in her family for years, and it has been passed around to her friends; daughters to use at their weddings. I remember the day she asked me if I would use it, and we were truly honored.
We had so much fun planning all of the little details of the wedding. It truly made the day so much more special, knowing that we had our personal touch on everything. The experience was something I will never forget!”
Alexandria’s advice? Hire a good photographer because the day goes by so fast you won’t remember every detail! Also, I believe booze, food, and the band are really the three biggest things you shouldn’t skimp on.
The couple honeymooned in Turks and Caicos.
