Classic Air Force Academy Wedding

Catie and Greg met right before Catie accepted an au pair job in Switzerland but that didn’t keep the two apart. After dating transcontinentally, Greg surprised Catie by showing up in Switzerland and dropping to one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. (To read their full love story and amazing proposal, keep scrolling) The couple decided to wed at the Air Force Academy’s chapel in Colorado Springs, Colo., because Greg is a pilot for the Air Force. They invited family members to join them for the full week of Thanksgiving in Colorado to celebrate the holiday and their wedding together. Their intimate reception was held at the Cliff House nearby in Manitou Springs.  / Images by Ais Portraits.

Greg and I both have large extended families, and we were fortunate that most of our family members were able to join us in Colorado for the week of Thanksgiving. We celebrated the holiday all together as one family, then we pitted the families against each other in a rehearsal dinner chili cook off. Our reception venue was totally decorated by our mothers, sisters, and aunts, the boutonnieres were made by an old friend (who also happened to be our photographer!), and to top it all off, we got married on the 28th anniversary of my parent’s wedding.”

When I was in Switzerland working as an au pair, some friends and I planned a trip to France to see the Christmas Markets. I was excited – I had never been to France before and was really looking forward to the trip. When I went to go meet my friends at the train station to leave, Greg, who was supposed to be in New Mexico, showed up instead. I was so shocked by his sudden arrival in Switzerland that I don’t even remember him getting down on one knee and asking me to be his wife, but I do know that it happened under the Swarovski Christmas Tree in Zurich Main Train Station. I’m assuming I said yes, since we’re now married.”
