Classic Connecticut wedding

Colleen and Michael wanted a fun, simple and romantic day to celebrate their love. They chose their date, 7/11/14, for three beautiful reasons: they were the ages of Michael’s three daughters at the time of their wedding! The couple wed at The Riverview in Weatogue, Conn. / Images by Katie Slater.

Not only was I making a commitment to Mike, but I was making a commitment to his 3 daughters as well. It was very important to make them feel a part of the celebration, as well.

Colleen + Michael’s Love Story
“On May 5th of last year, Mike gave me a six-pack of beer and a card. We are Irish, after all. In the card, he thanked me for letting him buy me a beer the night we first met. It was very sweet I thought, and then Mike walked out of the room. A minute or so later, he came back in the room with another card and another gift (this time the gift was a rosebush) and in the card he thanked me for helping him turn his house into a home. And then he walked out of the room again. At this point I knew something wasn’t right. A minute or so later, Mike came back in the room and handed me another card. I opened it and began reading. It asked if I would spend the rest of my life with him. I looked up from the card, and Mike was on one knee with the ring poised in his hand and I said yes.”

There are so many great resources out there to help guide you to the right vendor for you and your wedding. Set up meetings to meet with them face-to-face. Second, don’t feel rushed into making a decision on vendors but understand that some are booked a year in advance. My third piece of advice, the hardest one, set a realistic budget and try and stick with it. I found myself splurging on a few items (dress & officiant) and cutting back on others (personalized cocktail napkins).”
