Intimate Backyard Garden Wedding in Harrisonburg, Va.

I have been obsessed with the idea of backyard weddings since before my own wedding and the one I am sharing today is pretty much the backyard wedding of my {and your} dreams. Miranda and Chance wed in their own backyard and that crafty groom, Chance, built all of the tables for their wedding – can you imagine? Even better, one of the made-with-love tables is now residing in their dining room. Beyond adorable. And the icing on the cake? Super sought-after photographer Katie Stoops was there to capture every last beautiful detail. It’s no surprise that this gorgeous wedding was quickly scooped up by Southern Living Weddings magazine – you can see the full magazine feature here. But read on for extra photos and delicious insight from the glowing bride, Miranda …

Says Miranda, “I knew as soon as we bought this house that I wanted to get married here. I can’t imagine anything more intimate than a wedding in your own backyard. We wanted it to be elegant but relaxed. Having only 48 guests allowed us to chat and mingle with everyone. And it’s nice to be able to walk into your backyard and say, ‘Right there is where we promised to spend the rest of our lives with each other:)’

I can’t pick just one [favorite memory] … It all went by so fast and I wish that every moment could have lasted a little bit longer that day…

Miranda + Chance’s Love Story
Chance and I met while both in relationships with other people. I was a bartender and he was an occasional customer. We lived about an hour away from each other, but happened to run in to each other one night while out with friends. After hanging out with him that night, I realized how much I wanted to get to know him more. He obviously felt the same, because we have been together ever since. I left my hometown and job to move to Harrisonburg to be with him six years ago and it was the best decision I ever made. I now own a clothing boutique downtown that he helped me open.

Our friend, Paul, performed the ceremony and we wrote our own vows.

A local restaurant catered the wedding and we had the most amazing food!

I love that Chance built all the tables. One of the tables is now in our dining room and we can have that forever. Also, having so many wonderful friends there throughout the day to help with flower arrangements, hanging lanterns, setting up chairs. We are lucky to be surrounded by so many wonderful people that love us.”

Here’s Miranda closing advice: “RELAX…don’t sweat the small details…no one will notice except you anyway. At the end of the day you will be going to sleep holding the one you love, and that is all that really matters anyway.”
